The ocean


The pictures above are all from home where I live right next to the ocean, and wake up everyday with an amazing view over it. I’ve been living with that all my life so I didn’t realize what a huge different it makes. I can’t have peace of mind unless I’m waking up looking over the endless horizon of water. It may sound cliché, but it’s a fact that I feel suffocated without it. 

My dad actually warned me about this before I left but I just brushed it off and didn’t think more about it. When I got here and started living the daily life, I really understood what he meant. 

Do you have any similiar experiences? Doesn’t have to be about water, it can be anything else. 

Teetotaler? 

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, we’re talking 2-3 years. Honestly, drinking can be a lot of fun but the consequences and risks from it aren’t worth it. Especially if you’re into fitness and want your muscles to grow. I know it’s different from person to person how you’re affected by the liquor and feel when you wake up after a night out. For me personally, it’s overall not worth it. The hangovers are so bad and I need to know that I have control over myself, if not I’ll get bad anxiety. 


In 2015 I almost didn’t drink at all, safe to say it was a good year for both my physical and mental health. I want to go back to that state of being. 

How do you guys feel and think about this topic? I’m genuinely curious about your personal experiences and thoughts on it.

Uphill -where the magic happens

When I am out running and I get to the part where the hills are at their steepest, I have one sentence that I always tell myself repeatedly until I get to the top; “This is where the magic happens. This is where the magic happens.” It is when you feel like dying, that the real changes appear. Both mentally and physically.

When you are so drained you feel like dropping to the ground gasping for air and surrendering to the lactic acid. That is where the magic happens. That is when you should find the inner strength to let the pain transform you into a better version of yourself. Similarly, this applies to every aspects of your life. If you ever feel unmotivated, drained, hopeless, uninspired and sad -tell yourself “this is where the magic happens”. In the end, when the pain leaves your body you are standing as a sharper, shinier, stronger and better diamond than you have ever been. Keep going.

Stress

Due to my finals, travelling, and working at an airport I have really been feeling the stress lately. At first I did not handle it very well, but after a while I think I managed to deal with it pretty good, in my opinion. Therefore, I want to share with you some of my tips and tricks that I learned to use during my stressful period.

  1. Breathe.

When you feel the stress sneaking up on you, try to focus on your breath. Many people, including myself start to breathe uncontrollably when their nerves kick in. What’s easy to overlook is that your uneven breath fuels your stress, and make you even more anxious. If you focus on breathing evenly and deep down your lungs, you will get the sence of being more calm and in control.

2. Think through.

This may seem difficult but take the time you need to sit down, breath and think through whatever stresses you. Changes are, it does not take as much time as it would to run around with many errands on your mind, not knowing what to take care of first.

3. Write it down.

Now that you have your breath and mind under fairly control, write that shit down! Make a plan over what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. Decide your first priority, thereupon,  your second priority, and so on. In that way, you get all factors on your mind out of your head and down on something physical that you can look at, which also have a calming effect.

 

4. Positive mindset.

You will go through what ever you are going through, a lot more uncomplicated if you choose to have a positive mindset. Choose to believe that everything will work out in your favour, as long as you are doing your best. If it does not, you will figure it out later. For now, focus on what needs to be done and deal with the outcome later. There is nothing you can do about it at this moment, except to work hard and take one step at a time. Admittedly, you can be your own worst enemy, or your own best helper. Breathe.

5. Be present.

If you live in the moment and take one task at a time, you will most likely find yourself achieving a much better result than if you did not. Indeedly, this is not easily done when you have a hundred things to do, a flight to catch and plenty of schoolwork, but trust yourself and your capabilities. As long as you arrive the right place at the right time, you are good to go. You have not spent half of your life on a schoolbench without a reason, you deep down know the answere to any task on your upcoming tests. As I said, trust yourself.

6. Get a grip.

Now go! Take charge and embark the point that stands on top of your list. Put on some hardcore music, make yourself a cup of coffee and check out the points as you complete them. It will give you more motivation as you go.

Be strong enough to stay soft-hearted

It is a mystery to me, why some people salute those who act cold, heartless and rude. In my opinion, there is no strength in insulting other people or being unaware of your own and others feelings. In fact, strength is shown by being vulnerable and brave enough to refuse to let bad experiences harden your heart after being hurt one or three or eight or a thousand times, even though, you know being kind and caring can sometimes cause pain. You can let your life make you bitter or make you better. The choice is yours to make.

No, not everyone you meet will treat you with the respect and love that you deserve. No, Not everyone you meet on your path in life will greet you with the compassion and kindness you expect.

You know what that is a sign of? It is a sign that the world needs more of it. So double your dose of love. Double your dose of respect. Double your dose of compassion. Double your dose of kindness. If you experience lack of these factors, it is clarified, your world needs more of them. Therefore, throw love and kindness around like confetti.

You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to faith, it belongs to you. What do you want?; A life filled with fear of feelings, or a life filled with wholehearted, giving experiences that grows you as a person, no matter the outcome?

In addition, having feelings lies within our nature, why salute acting like something else? Feelings are not scary, they are a natural part of our being. The one thing we do not need in the midst of a struggle is shame for being human. Besides, real fearlessness is the product of being tender, it comes from letting the world touch your raw and beautiful wholehearted soul, with whatever it chooses to give you. That is courage. That is being brave.

If you are standing on your feet as a humble person after being heartbroken and hurt, I salute you! I salute you for your strength, courage and incredible heart that will still choose love and kindness, any day. It is better to love with a whole heart, trust with a whole heart, and give with a whole heart. Than to never experience the beauty of love, the reward of giving and the comfort of trusting.

Perfection

When you go into the forest and look at trees, you see all kinds of different variations. Some of them are bent, some are straight, some are evergreens, some are young, some are broken, some are old and some of them are whatever. What matters is, you look at the trees and you allow them. You can see why they are the way they are, according to their circumstances, and you understand that one did not get enough light which caused it to turn away. While another tree is in the midst of a sunny spot, which caused it to bloom in all its glory. In some areas there has been heavy weather, which caused major breakages. Further, You do not get all emotional about it, you just allow it. You appreciate the nature just the way it unfolds.

The minute you get near humans, you loose all that. Many people, have an ugly habit of saying “she is too this” or “he is too that”. The judging mind comes in, and they forget that all human beings are a result of nature, just the way trees are. I have had this kind of mindset myself earlier, and I am not afraid to admit it. I think we have all been there at some point growing up. 

However, start to practice turning people into trees (careless of how stupid it may sound) and learn to appreciate everyone just the way they are. As a unit we compliment eachother and make a perfect composition. Some of us may not have gotten a lot of light, others may have enjoyed all of it. That does not mean some of us are more important or more perfect. We are all perfect individuals of nature’s own beautiful creation.
